EXEMPTIONS FOR BOTH PRAXIS I and II: Ed 513.01(b)
(July 2003)
(1) Master’s Degree or
higher; or
(2) Seven or more years of
educational experience under a credential issued by another state.
A Master Degree does not exempt the PRAXIS II for Early
Childhood Education and for Elementary Education.
Both the Basic Academic Skills - Praxis I and Subject
Assessment - Praxis II requirement apply to all FIVE certification
alternatives.
All educators seeking initial
certification must document basic academic skills. The New Hampshire
State Board of Education has chosen PRAXIS I Pre Professional Skills
Test (PPST) or the Computerized Pre Professional Skills Test (CPPST) as a means
of documenting basic academic skills. PRAXIS is a testing program
developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and validated for use in

ASSESSMENT. Ed 513.01
Candidates applying for
certification are required to document subject area competency. For Biology,
Chemistry, Early Childhood Education, Earth/Space Science, Elementary
Education, English/Language Arts, General Science, Middle School
English/Language Arts, Middle School Mathematics, Middle School Social Studies,
Physical Science, Physics, Secondary Mathematics and Social Studies competency
can be documented by passing the Praxis II subject area test or an equivalent
test. Other subject areas will be
