Note:  As of the September 2007 test administration, the New Hampshire Department of Education will automatically receive scores for test takers who take a Praxis test at a test center in New Hampshire.  Test takers not testing at a test center in New Hampshire who would like New Hampshire Department of Education to receive their scores must list the code 7660 on their registration form to designate New Hampshire Department of Education as a score recipient.

EXEMPTIONS FOR BOTH PRAXIS I and II: Ed 513.01(b)   (July 2003)

(1) Master’s Degree or higher; or

(2) Seven or more years of educational experience under a credential issued by another state.

 

A Master Degree does not exempt the PRAXIS II for Early Childhood Education and for Elementary Education.

 

Both the Basic Academic Skills - Praxis I and Subject Assessment - Praxis II requirement apply to all FIVE certification alternatives.

 
BASIC ACADEMIC SKILLS ASSESSMENT Ed 513.01

 

All educators seeking initial certification must document basic academic skills.  The New Hampshire State Board of Education has chosen PRAXIS I Pre Professional Skills Test (PPST) or the Computerized Pre Professional Skills Test (CPPST) as a means of documenting basic academic skills. PRAXIS is a testing program developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and validated for use in New Hampshire.  Passing scores were established by the State Board of Education.  In addition to the PRAXIS I, New Hampshire can accept the PRAXIS I composite score option as well as other equivalent tests.   Decisions regarding equivalent testing is made at discretion of the Bureau of Credentialing.  To inquire about the PRAXIS I composite score option or equivalent tests call the Bureau at 603-271-2408.

 

Test codes and passing scores are as follows:

Test Fee for paper and pencil tests:  $40.00 each test.

Test Fee: 

1 test - $80.00,   2 tests - $120.00,  3 tests - $160.00.  A combination fee for all 3 tests - $130.00

Composite Score Option:  Reading 172; Writing 170; Mathematics 170 and must have total of at least 518.

In addition to test fees there is a registration fee for both Praxis I and II.   Currently that fee is $50.00.

 

If the PRAXIS is used as documentation of basic academic skills, a candidate for certification must pass all three tests.  Should an individual fail one or more of the sub tests (Reading, Writing or Mathematics), only the failed test(s) need to be retaken.   Scores are maintained by ETS for a period of ten years.

 

Currently, Franklin Pierce College - Rindge, Keene State College - Keene, Plymouth State University - Plymouth, Rivier College - Nashua, University of New Hampshire - Durham, are sites for the paper and pencil PRAXIS I exams.  Additional sites may be added.

SUBJECT AREA ASSESSMENT.  Ed 513.01

 

Candidates applying for certification are required to document subject area competency.  For Biology, Chemistry, Early Childhood Education, Earth/Space Science, Elementary Education, English/Language Arts, General Science, Middle School English/Language Arts, Middle School Mathematics, Middle School Social Studies, Physical Science, Physics, Secondary Mathematics and Social Studies competency can be documented by passing the Praxis II subject area test or an equivalent test.  Other subject areas will be validated over a multiyear period. Contact the Bureau of Credentialing for equivalent test information.   If an educator who holds a valid credential seeks a new endorsement in any of the areas above the candidate will be required to pass Praxis II, or otherwise document subject area competency, in order to add the additional endorsement.  Passing scores are established by the State Board of Education.

 

 

NOTE:   In addition to meeting Ed 513.01, before an initial credential will be issued or an endorsement added to an existing credential,

all other certification requirements must be met.
