SUBMITTAL
REQUIREMENTS FOR ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS
The designs for school construction projects must be
approved by several state agencies as indicated below.
All required approvals must be received by the Department
of Education, Office of School Building Aid, before
School Building Aid payments can be made to the school
district.
This list does not address permit requirements. It is
for design approval only.

Submit one set of preliminary drawings consisting of
a site plan and floor plans which show the dimensions
and use of each room.
Submit one complete set of construction documents, stamped
by architects and engineers licensed to practice in
New Hampshire.
Submit progress prints for review as desired or as requested
by the department.
AutoCad drawings may be submitted on a CD to the Department
of Education only. Do not send as an e-mail attachment.
Other agencies require paper copies of drawings unless
otherwise specified.
Submit a letter or letters signed by a licensed architect
or engineer on business letterhead stating that the
design meets the state building codes per RSA 155-A,
the state energy conservation code per RSA 155-D, and
the state barrier free access code per RSA 275-C, Acoustics
Standards per Ed 321.21. A statement that no asbestos
containing materials have been specified in the design.
Submit a copy of the letters of approval from each of
the agencies below as required.

Submit the following:
BUILDING PLANS
Code Summary to include code editions used and relevant
exceptions cited
Construction type, protected or not, anticipated occupancy(ies),
occupant load, area of largest story, and perimeter
Local fire department letter of approval for location
and specification of FD connection.
Separate Fire Protection pages showing fire walls, fire
and smoke stops, emergency lighting, and exit lighting
Letter from the NH licensed architect or engineer responsible
for the design stating that the design satisfies the
requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act
and the NH Barrier Free Design Code.
Is an automatic sprinkler system required? Yes / No
Is a fire alarm system required? Yes / No

FIRE ALARM PLANS

Documentation required by NFPA 72:1-6, 1999 ed.
Floor plan to scale with specifications and information
for each device used.
Local fire department letter of approval for location,
layout, and specification of fire alarm panel.
Strobe lumen or decibel levels for each device must
be listed on the plan drawn to scale.
