The last national activity of the 2008 State Teachers of the Year, sponsored by the Pearson Foundation, was the creation of individual videos on “Why I Teach”. It is a remarkable collection of moving stories of what makes these teachers so very special to their students and to us all. These videos can be accessed on the Pearson Foundation Web site at: http://pearsonfoundation.org/ccsso-toy/2008/.

My Journey as the 2004 NH Teacher of the Year, by Ida Dziura third grade teacher at Londonderry Elementary School

Each year since 1952, New Hampshire schools have taken part in the State and National Teacher of the Year Program. Educators are selected from any New Hampshire state-approved or accredited school, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, if they are planning to continue in an active teaching status. In New Hampshire, Hannaford Supermarkets is proud to partner with the Department of Education to sponsor the New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Program. With this program, we hope to:

  • create a positive, progressive image for the New Hampshire Department of Education's awards programs
  • recognize teacher quality
  • gain community recognition and support
  • increase networking and mentoring among educators
  • attract and retain quality educators, and
  • provide positive messages about the teaching profession.

For a list of past recipients or more information about the NH Teacher of the Year Program go to the Leadership in Education web site at www.NHGoldApple.org. For more information about the National Teacher of the Year Program go to http://www.ccsso.org/projects/National_Teacher_of_the_Year.

Every day a New Hampshire teacher makes a difference in the life of a child.
Every year the NH Department of Education honors outstanding educators who make their communities, profession, and the world a better place.
