Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)
Nominations are now being accepted online until April 1, 2010 for the 2010 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The PAEMST Online Application is now available at www.paemst.org. To apply, teachers must first be nominated for the award. Teachers may nominate themselves or someone else (e.g., principals, teachers, parents, or other members of the general public) may nominate them for this award. Once nominated, teachers will receive an e-mail with a login and password to access the online application. The application deadline for elementary school teachers (grades K-6) is May 3, 2010.
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is the highest recognition that kindergarten through 12th-grade mathematics or science teachers may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. Awardees are recognized for their contribution to teaching and learning and their ability to help students make progress in mathematics and science. In addition to honoring individual achievement, the goal of the award program is to exemplify the highest standards of mathematics and science teaching.

Grade-Level Expectations
The New Hampshire Department of Education, Rhode Island Department
of Education, and Vermont Department of Education have developed
a common set of Grade-Level Expectations, known as the New England
Common Assessment Program Grade-Level Expectations (NECAP GLEs).
These expectations were developed in response to the requirements
of the federally mandated No Child Left Behind Act, 2001 to test
all students, beginning in the 2005-2006 academic year, in each
of grades 3-8 in mathematics.
The NECAP GLEs do not
represent the full curriculum in mathematics or reading/language
arts. Rather, they serve as an assessment framework for the development
of the testing blueprints for common assessments. Each of the partner
states intend to develop revised curriculum frameworks to accompany
the NECAP GLEs. The revised frameworks will support good instruction
and local assessment by modeling concepts and skills not easily
assessed in an on-demand large-scale assessment (e.g., mental mathematics,
self-correcting while reading).
GLE Teacher Resource Materials
-
To obtain Reading, Writing, and Mathematics GLE Teacher Resource Materials go to www.necompact.org. (
This is now an archived site for NECAP and was last modified on February 6, 2007)
-
In addition to the support materials on the New England Compact website, the following file contains 180 items/tasks mapped to the NH Mathematics GLEs.
- The purpose of these resource materials is to provide K-8 educators with explanations and examples that facilitate understanding of the mathematics in the Grade-Level-Expectations (GLEs). These resource materials are organized by content strand and only address the NECAP GLEs that are common to the NECAP states.

Grade-Span
Expectations (GSEs)
The New Hampshire Department of Education, Rhode Island Department
of Education, and Vermont Department of Education have also developed
Grade-Span Expectations (GSEs) for high school students in Mathematics,
Reading and Writing for grades 9-10 and 11-12. The
GSEs include expectations that intend to be assessed on the large
scale assessment and others that will be a local curriculum and
assessment option.

Achieve’s Comparison of the American Diploma Project Mathematics Benchmarks with GSEs
Reviewed in this report are the draft GSEs for Grades 9-10 and 11-12, plus GSEs for Advanced Mathematics. The ADP Benchmarks in mathematics are used as the basis of comparison in this analysis to help Rhode Island ensure that its high school graduates are ready to succeed in the postsecondary world.
***Although this report is based on GSEs from Rhode Island, the alignment to New Hampshire GSEs is sufficient
since this document includes the NECAP GSEs used by all states involved in the NECAP collaboration.***
