Math/Science Partnership Grant Project

In January of 2002, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) became law.   Title II, Part B of this legislation authorizes a Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) competitive grant program. The program is intended to encourage institutions of higher education, local school districts, elementary schools, and secondary schools to participate in professional development activities that increase the subject matter knowledge and teaching skills of mathematics and science teachers. Professional development activities must be sustained, intensive, classroom focused, and aligned with state, local standards, and mathematics and science curricula. These activities must result in a demonstrable and measurable improvement in student academic achievement in mathematics and science.   The first year, New Hampshire awarded two (2) MSP grants to improve the teaching of middle school mathematics. In year two, the first year projects for math were renewed plus one additional mathematics project was funded. One science proposal for safety was approved in that year.

The New Hampshire Department of Education is responsible for the administration of this program.   Funds available for the Mathematics and Science Partnership competitive grant program will be awarded by the Department of Education to support proposals which successfully meet the eligibility requirements discussed herein and demonstrate capacity to accomplish the required deliverables and outcomes.

eMSS (eMentoring for Student Success)

There will be funding for about 7 NH teachers to participate in the eMSS program through the New Teacher Center during the school year 2010-2011. eMSS is for first through third year teachers of middle and high school mathematics and science. Recruitment has started for next year's program as online training is conducted during the summer months. If you are a first through third year teacher and will be teaching middle or high school mathematics or science and would like to get involved, please contact Christine Downing at cdowning@newport.k12.nh.us or 603-863-2414 ext 2103.
