New Hampshire Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Model

This recommended process of implementing school counseling programs in New Hampshire’s public schools has been revised and updated by the State Department of Education Office of Guidance and Counseling and a dedicated group of experienced professional school counselors. The complete implementation manual may be printed for use in your school. The NH manual aligns the best national thinking on professional school counseling with the unique aspects of New Hampshire's educational system, such as the educational rules and laws, curriculum frameworks, and district strategic plans.

The New Hampshire Career Development Curriculum Framework

(contains the School Guidance & Counseling standards)

The K-12 Career Development Curriculum Framework was developed over a two year period, utilizing a committee of over 50 educators, school counselors, administrators, business representatives, parents and students to best represent career development expectations for New Hampshire students. The framework was also reviewed by a number of educational groups, and other stakeholders, including the NH State Board of Education. The framework has three sections:

  • Core Educational Learning
  • Individual/Social Learning
  • Career Learning

The standards in the Career Development Framework align with national career guidance and school counseling standards.

The K-12 Career Development Framework is available from the NHEIAP office at 271-3194 and can be download in its entirety from the DOCUMENT link, below.

Resources

PDF Icon  An Incredible Journey - A New Hampshire Guide to Adoption and Permanency 2006 - This manual  for parents will also assist school counselors and teachers in assisting with the needs and emotional/academic issues of adopted children.

PDF Icon  Adoption Basics for Educators: How Adoption Impacts Children & How Educators Can Help - This booklet was originally developed by the Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parents Association and edited by the New Hampshire Adoption Advisory Council (NHAAC), a committee whose purpose is to be a voice for adoption in NH. The NHAAC is a group of social workers, adoptive parents, school and agency personnel working to promote understanding of adoption issues.

Resources That Work - Every day, school counselors search for effective ways to teach skills, prepare students for the next steps in life, or successfully deal with crises. New counselors starting out and experienced counselors, looking for ways to implement the NH Career Development Framework standards that pertain to Guidance or the Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling standards, often ask which materials are recommended. This group of written resources was chosen by a team of veteran NH school counselors, based on ease of use, current, timely information, developmental appropriateness, and results.
