• World Language teachers (25 teachers from 12 high schools around the state) convened over 3 days in August 2007 to create and refine first drafts of course-level competencies for French, German, Latin (Greek) and Spanish. Follow-up meetings took place in February 2008 to review the draft competencies and work on assessment rubrics. The final model competencies for French, Latin, German and Spanish are now available below.

• WL NEWS    A member of the NHAWLT Board and of the World Languages Team that wrote the NH WL competencies, Faith Day, created an outstanding format  with which to engage students in the competencies and in self-evaluation. With this form, students can record how well they are doing with each competency/standard. It is easily adapted to all languages, with some adjustment, particularly in the case of Latin. Teachers report that it's easy for students to understand and to use. Thank you Faith for this excellent tool!

• Cross Cutting Competencies from the 1997 - 2003 Competency-Based Assessment Sysytem. These competncies were developed, tested and implemented by groups of NH high schools working collaboratively. They were based on the original SCANS skills and worded to be observable and assessable.

• High School-to-College Competencies: The Center for Education Policy Research, headed by David Conley from Oregon, had been working on high school standards that develop skills and content knowledge that students need to succeed in college. These competncy standards in Engliah, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social sciences, Second languares and the Arts include Knowledge and Skills Foundations and Content Standards. The foundations section describes the skills, behaviors and attitudes expected of high school to college students.
