and Consumer Sciences Education
Family
and Consumer Sciences Education prepares students for
careers working with individuals and families as well
as being productive members of their own family, community
and workplace. Family and Consumer Sciences education
prepares individuals for life.
New
Hampshire Family and Consumer Sciences Education is
centered around six areas as identified in the New Hampshire
Guidelines for Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
Developmentally appropriate coursework integrating academic
and career/workplace skills to prepare students to successfully
manage individual, family and work roles in the following
areas:
Career, Community and Family Relations
Foods, Nutrition and Wellness
Human Development, Early Childhood and Parenting
Consumer and Resource Management
Housing and Textiles
Hospitality, Tourism and Facilities Management
Middle
School
Foundations
of Work and Family provides the foundation
for students to begin their journey towards becoming
independent, productive citizens. The middle school
program addresses the following essential units of study:
Career Exploration, Consumer and Resource Management,
Foods and Nutrition, Human Growth and Development and
Interpersonal Relationships.
High
School
New
Hampshire FCS Education offers courses, such as Child
Development and Introduction to the Hospitality
Industry , that provide the opportunity to specialize
in one area or as in the case of Adult Roles and
Responsibilities combines important aspects from
2 or more areas. The Adult Roles class also provides
the foundation for career workplace skills.
Career
and Technical
These
programs provide opportunities to work towards FCS related
careers in areas such as Education, Hospitality, Health
and Human Services. These programs offer students school-based
and work-based learning as a way to more deeply prepare
for their personal and professional lives.
Family,
Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
This
is the recognized student organization for FCS Education
programs. It is the mechanism for mastering Family and
Consumer Sciences competencies through leadership, citizenship
and skill development. Members have many opportunities
to enhance these skills through character development,
service learning, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal
communication, practical knowledge and career preparation.
These students have opportunities to use these skills
in the classroom and during local chapter meetings and
state and national leadership conferences.
