School Nurse Day is May 11, 2005

Take This Opportunity To Acknowledge Your School Nurse

The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) celebrates National School Nurse Day on the 2 nd Wednesday of May, during National Nurses Week. In New Hampshire , the New Hampshire School Nurses' Association joins to honor and celebrate the contributions made by New Hampshire School Nurses to the children in our communities.

The NH School Nurses Association is the professional organization representing the state's approximately 500 school nurses, with a mission of promoting quality school health services by registered professional school nurses to ensure that each child can reach his or her full educational potential.

Among their many responsibilities, school nurses promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student/family capacity for self- management, self-advocacy, and learning. They often provide these services to increasingly large numbers of students and frequently in more than one school building. School nurses have played a vital role in improving the health and well-being of our nation's children.

School Nurses in New Hampshire will celebrate School Nurse Day on May 11, 2005 . School administration, parents and students should consider taking a moment this week to recognize the school nurse in their schools. If anyone from the media would like assistance contacting a school nurse in your community so you can showcase their work to honor this special day contact Katherine Rannie, RN, M.Sc., Education Consultant, School Health Services, NH Department of Education, Phone: (603) 271-3891 or e-mail krannie@ed.state.nh.us .
